Welcome

Welcome to my home page.

I am a research professor in elementary particle physics at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, working at the Interuniversity Institute for High Energies - IIHE (ULB-VUB).

My research interests include the re-discovery of the Standard Model of Particle Physics using the Large Hadron Collider. Once we can see what we understand, I intend to search for signs of new physics, like for example Super-Symmetry (SUSY). I work in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) collaboration, where I am active in top quark physics and the search for new particles that decay to top quarks.

As I believe it is important to explain how interesting particle physics is, I am a School Ambassador for the European Union's SET-ROUTES program and an official CERN guide.

In my free time I enjoy travelling, going out, reading, drawing, doing sports (field hockey and running for beer), live music (particularly alternative rock) and playing computer games.

We are trying to answer questions like: how did the universe evolve? What is the nature of space and time? What, really, is mass?
